In response to an aging population that is quickly expanding within the criminal justice system, tailored care strategies that address both the physical and behavioral health complexities of older adults are needed. However, information, collaboration, and evidence-based practices are critically lacking in criminal justice settings to address the specific behavioral health needs of older adults, including cognitive decline, mental health disorders, end-of-life needs, and complications stemming from other physical health problems.
This webinar on December 4 will explore the current need for improved behavioral health strategies for aging adults and critical partnerships between jails, prisons, and public and private community-based agencies. Emerging best practices for addressing the behavioral health needs for aging populations in jails, prisons, and upon reentry will also be presented. This webinar will build on SAMHSA GAINS center’s 2024 presentation “Responding to a Growing Demographic; Supporting Older Adult Populations within the Criminal Justice System.”
