The annual statewide Asian Pacific Islanders Mental Health Empowerment Conference (APIMHEC) was first organized in 2018 in Orange County by a community-based organization, Viet-C.A.R.E., and co-sponsored by California State University Fullerton Department of Social Work, LA Care Health Plan, and Special Service for Groups (SSG).

The intentions and purposes of the statewide APIMHEC are to deliver an inclusive cultural and professional enrichment opportunity to empower the services providers and members of the API communities to improve the quality of care and reduce health disparities.

The APIMHEC brings together great minds and resources from the four groups who can improve quality of care and reduce health disparities:

  1. policy/ decision makers
  2. services providers
  3. caregivers
  4. consumers

Together, conference attendees shall learn and share the challenges, as well as innovative successful approaches and resources to improve the quality of mental health care and reduce health disparities among the API communities.
