NNED Partner of the Month

In order to highlight pockets of excellence across the country the NNED selects an organization to highlight once a month. Change Happens! has been selected as the NNED Partner of the Month for April 2014 in observance of National Youth HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (April 10).

Change Happens!, formerly known as Families Under Urban & Social Attack, is a 501(c)(3), non-profit, community-based organization. The organization provides a variety of programs in the Houston, Texas area that reflect their mission to empower people to help themselves. Some of their programs include:

  • HIV Prevention using street and community outreach and individual counseling
  • Homeless supportive services to individuals and families in more than 20 shelters
  • HYPE – Helping Youth Prevent Engaging in Risky Behavior Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program
  • HYPE 2.0 - Helping Youth Prevent Engaging in Risky Behavior (HYPE 2.0) specializing in the educational empowerment of African American teens ages 15-19.
  • Youth Partners CAN Project – Re-Entry Mentoring program
  • Project JUMP START - workforce development and academic achievement goals for youth ages 14-21

Since 1989, Change Happens!, has grown from 1 program to over 18 programs, with a staff of over 50 employees. In 2001, Change Happens! received recognition from the Texas State Legislators for outstanding performance in providing application assistance to uninsured families in Harris, Fort Bend, and Brazoria Counties.
