Description

This session of the SOC Leadership Learning Community will focus on the importance of strong relationships with family- and youth-run organizations at state and local levels in SOCs for children, youth, and young adults and their families.

Vibrant youth and family voice has long been a hallmark of the SOC approach. However, it is not simple or easy to achieve. Family and youth organizations have proven to be effective vehicles for engaging families and youth leaders in many important roles at the policy and service delivery levels.

Presenters will address topics including:

  • the need to grow involvement from one family and one youth to many families and youth
  • the benefits of working with family and youth organizations
  • the roles of family and youth organizations in SOCs
  • the roles of family leads and youth specialists
  • the inclusion of family and youth organizations in SOC governance.

Bumps in the road along the way and challenges will be discussed, as well as effective strategies for working with family- and youth-run organizations and thinking ahead to the long-term sustainability of youth and family organizations. Bring your experiences, including successes and challenges, in building youth and family voice and working with family and youth organizations and join national leaders of the youth and family movements for this discussion.
